Post Natal Recovery

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆. The environment women find themselves in today is drastically different to our ancestors in terms of increased chronic stressors. The cumulative physical, chemcial, emotional, mental, spiritual and electromagnetic stressors result in nutritional stores being depleted to below optimal levels. This makes both the role of stress managment and adequate nutritional intake much more important. This applies after birth, during gestation, pre-conception and even intergenerationally. ⁣
⁣⁣
Our tribal ancestors were conscious of the nutritional demand that is needed for pregnancy. They took every precaution to ensure that the future mother was fully nourished prior to conception. This ensured the presence of nutrient reserves to support adequate growth and maintenance of both herself and baby. Postpartum depression can be a result of these overburdening stressors and nutritional deficiencies where a stronger occurrence in breastfeeding mothers is inevitable as the mother's nutrient reserves are further exhausted. ⁣

Many additional physical stressors occur during pregnancy and extreme caution must be taken in post-natal recovery:⁣

〰️ As the baby grows, the woman’s weight distribution and posture changes drastically. This results in varying degrees of muscle imbalance and an increasing presence of lordosis and anterior pelvic tilt. The potential for back pain and sciatica ensues. ⁣

〰️ The transverse abdominis stretches during pregnancy. The functionality of this muscle is a major contributor to spinal instability and exercise should not be implemented until it is restored. ⁣

〰️ Diastasis occurs which is the separation of the rectus abdominis muscle. It’s very important to note that trunk flexion exercises should not be performed until this separation is fully reversed. ⁣

〰️ In the event of a C section the neurological capacity for control of the lower abdominals can be lost. This often results in a “pooch” below the naval. Regaining control and core functionality can be obtained through the right sequence of corrective exercises.⁣

Unscientific post baby training is extremely negligent and potentially dangerous. Posture must be restored with an individualised corrective stretching/exercise program and diastasis must also be reversed with a fully functional core restored prior to exercise. Typically, women are told after 6 weeks they can return to normal. With little specificity in what “normal” is for the individual mother. ⁣

C.H.E.K Exercise Coaches receive training on post-natal recovery to correct postural dysfunctions, reverse diastasis and restore core functionality. ⁣For more information on the packages available see below.
